Pink and blue silk dress recycled from a vintage kimono.

 I made this as part of a sustainable fashion project I have named 'Waist Knot ', which is a wordplay on the old saying 'waste not want not '. All of the items in the collection have been made from recycled vintage kimonos which for one reason or another had come to the end of their usefulness in this form. I collected , unpicked and washed all the kimono fabric myself and can guarantee its authenticity.

 The term 'waist knot ' also refers to the wrap belts that feature throughout the collection , and are one of a unique variety of multi sizing  techniques I have used to further create sustainability into the items.

 This dress can fit sizes between a UK 12 and 14 due to it being elasticated at the back waist . you can also pull it in with the long waist knot belt. the model is size 14

bust 38 inches( 97cm)

waist 30 to 34 inches (77cm to 87cm )

length of back from base of neck collar to waist , 15 inches (38cm)

length of skirt at centre front 22.5 inches (57cm)

length of skirt at side seams from waist to point 33.5 inches (85cm )

 The kimono I used to make this dress had originally been a brighter colour , and there are areas of the original colour and faded areas which have been used together  and should be considered part of the vintage charm of the garment.   the skirt has 2 pleats at the front and 2 at the back , to create more fullness , and the asymmetric shape dips down at the sides. there are very big silk lined pockets in the folds of the side seams. The contrast blue floral fabric is exquisite and in excellent condition.

 The skirt is a unique design and creates interesting folds that echo the kimono past of the fabric.

 As the fabric is very old it has some flaws, namely the fading as described , and also one mark in the fold of the skirt which I have hidden in the design.

 Faults like this should be embraced as part of the unique history of the garment and do not spoil the look in any way. Its a very pretty dress in a lovely weight of fabric. Its also fully lined
