this floaty jacket with ancient Japanese writing has been made from a vintage kimono
I made this as part of a sustainable fashion project that i named 'waist knot ' as a word play on the old saying' waste not want not' All of the items in the collection have been made form vintage kimonos that have for one reason or another reached the end of their usefulness in that form. I collected , unpicked and washed the kimono fabric myself and can guarantee the authenticity. the term waist knot also refers to the wrap belts that feature in the collection. Most of the garments in the collection are multi sizeable in order to improve their sustainability , however with this one , as it is a very loose fit it will fit multiple people as it is.
Its been made from fine but strong exquisite silk fabric that i found in the lining of one of the kimonos. I have matched it with gold silk , and a plain chiffon in the sleeves rom my stash , and lined it with black georgette to give it a substantial feel.
the measurements are
around body 52 inches (132cm)
collar to cuff sleeve 23 inches (59cm)
length 27 inches (69cm)
the fabric is absolutely gorgeous , I'm afraid I was not able to get an exact translation but I was told they represent words for autumn , and autumnal things.
