Red and black silk dress
Stunning red and black silk dress , with halter neck . recycled from a vintage kimono
I made this as part of a sustainable project collection I have named 'Waiat Knot ' , which is a wordplay on the saying 'waste not want not '.
all of the items in the collection have been recycled from vintage kimonos which for one reason or another had reached the end of their usefulness in that form. I collected, unpicked and washed all the fabric myself and can guarantee the authenticity.
The term Waist Knot , also refers to the wrap belts that feature throghout the collection and ne of a unique series of multi sizing techniques I have used in order to further the sustainability of the items.
This dress is made from lightweight matt black silk with a slight brownish thread through it
the front panel is absolutely striking bright red swirls hand painted on smooth black silk.
the dress laces up the back and has a panel inserted , which means that i can be worn by several different sizes , simply by tying the ribbon tighter or loser. It also has a long waist knot belt which goes around the waist twice then ties in a bow at the front.
The asymmetric hem is stunning , and falls softly at the sides of your legs. as seen on the model. On the mannequin you can see the effect of wearing it with netted underskirts which puff it out in a classis 1950s silhouette. ( nets not included ) the dress is fully lined with anti static black lining
It would make a great prom or party dress.
