Blue Silk Jacket

Beautiful jacket made from a vintage Kimono

I made this as part of a sustainable fashion project I have called 'Waist Knot ' which is a play on the saying 'Waste not want not '

All of the items in the collection have been recycled from vintage Kimonos , which for one reason or another have come to the end of their usefulness in that form. I collected, unpicked and washed all the kimono fabric myself , and can guarantee their authenticity.

The term 'Waist Knot ' also refers to the wrap belts which feature in the collection as one of a series of unique multi sizing techniques I have used to further increase the sustainability of the garments.

This jacket can easily change size by simply tying the back belt tighter or looser.  The garment is a loose fit and will fit you if you are a Uk size 12 to 16 approx . The model is a size 14

approx. measurements are

bust 44 inches (112cm)

waist 44 inches (112cm) but tie can bring it in 6 inches (15cm )

across shoulders 15 inches (39cm)

length from lower edge of neckline to hem centre back 24 inches (61cm)

around armhole 19 inches (49cm)

sleeve length inside arm 15 inches (38cm)

the lovely vintage silk fabric which is shades of deep blue and exquisite pink embroidered florals which look like hand painting.. It has a very substantial feel ,and is fully lined in amazing pink silk which was the original lining of the kimono. It has a pretty knotted fastener on the centre front waist.

As this jacket has been made from a very old kimono , the fabric shows some signs of wear. there is some fading , ghost seams and a tiny mend in the lining. ( a ghost seam is a visible reminder , usually a line , where there was once an original seam in the kimono ) I have positioned the ghost seam down the centre back and it is now a feature of the design.  Because of the exquisite nature of the fabric these things should be considered as part of the beauty and  the unique history of the garment.
